DreamWorks Animated Film THE GUARDIANS gets Pulitzer Prize Winner to adapt

The Gauardians

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire has been set to script DreamWorks Animation's next film project, The Gaurdians, which is an adaptation of the upcoming series of children's books by William Joyce.

It's always a plus when you get a Pulitzer Prize winning writer to write your movie. Lindsay-Abaire was also nominated for a Tony award for writing the book and lyrics to, Shrek the Musical. So he and DreamWorks seem to already have a little relationship going on.

The Guardians are a group of iconic figures sworn to protect children from the forces of evil. Their ranks include Santa Claus, Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny and the Man in the Moon. The books, a mix of text and illustrations, will be published in 2011 under the title The Guardians of Childhood. Each book focuses on one of the Guardians.

The film will be directed by Peter Ramsey, who also made the TV special, Mosters Vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space. The creator of the book series who also wrote Rolie Polie Olie and Meet the Robinsons, will be a co-director.

The story sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I'm interested to see what the style and character designs end up looking like. DreamWorks Animation has set a November 2, 2012, release.
