Johnny Depp Joins Angelina Jolie in THE TOURIST
Here's a little background history on what this film, The Tourist, has been through. Before Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie were cast, Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron were attached to star in the project. After they dropped out of the project Sam Worthington and Angelina Jolie stepped in. Sam Worthington fell through and in comes Johnny Depp. So that's where the movie is at regarding actors.
The film project has also seen it's share of directors. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck flirted with the project for a bit, but moved on to other things. Bharat Nalluri was attached to the film when Tom Cruise was involved, but that didn't work out. Now Alfonso Cuaron is in early talks to jump in the production. Cuaron is the best choice of the bunch, he's actually made a few really good films like, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men.
The Tourist is a remake of the 2005 French spy thriller called Anthony Zimmer, which involves a female Interpol agent who ropes an everyman American tourist visiting France into becoming bait in the hunt for a wanted criminal who's also her former lover.
The producers seem to be putting together a great little group of talent. This is an ideal situation for Spyglass Entertainment. They've got some great talent. Hopefully everything works out this time around.
