Disney recently optioned the rights to a book series that  has high hopes of winning over the same target market that Twilight has. The book is called Fallen, which was written by Lauren Kate and features angels instead of vampires.

The first of four planned books was released this week, and the story centers on an alienated girl torn between two charismatic young men, unaware that they are fallen angels who have battled over this girl for centuries.

Will angels be the new vampire? Disney is going to start a new trend in supernatural love stories. Variety says that "angels have been identified as the next trend in young-adult fiction with THR and werewolf tales having inundated the market." We've definitly seen a overload of vampire films, but are angels really going to be the next big thing?

Here is the product description from the book:

There's something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price's attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He's the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce--and goes out of his way to make that very clear--she can't let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her.

Dangerously exciting and darkly romantic, Fallen is a page turning thriller and the ultimate love story.

This sounds like something the twi-hards will latch onto.

Whether you are a fan of Twilight or not what do you think about Disney's next project?
