Movie Mel Gibson by Joey Paur

Last week we reported that Mel Gibson would was prepping up for a new film he planned on shooting in Mexico, but no details were given given at the time leaving the film wide open for speculation on what it could be about. And it looks like we were wrong in our speculation.

The movie will be called How I spent my Summer Vacation. Gibson wrote the screenplay, but he will not direct the film, he is handing over the directing duties to his protege Adrian Grunberg, who was his first A.D. on Apocalypto. The second A.D. on the film, Stacy Perskie, will be stepping into a Producer role on this new film. So the Apocalypto team is getting back together, but in different and better roles which is pretty cool to see Gibson do.

The story centers on a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican authorities and is sent to a drug- and crime-filled prison, where he learns how to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

Sounds like an interesting story. I'm glad to see Gibson getting active again. The guy is extremely talented as an actor, writer and director. He knows how to tell a good story, so as long as the script is solid the movie should end up being really good.

Gibson's ICON Production company will be fully financing the film -- just like on Apocalypto. As previously reported, the film will be shot in Veracruz, Mexico at the Ignacio Allende prison.

It was just announced yesterday that Gibson would be directing Leonardo DiCaprio in a Viking Film.

Any thoughts on Gbison's Summer Vacation film?
