Taylor Lautner to star in VISION QUEST Remake

Movie Taylor Lautner by Eli Reyes

Taylor Lautner has been cougar bait for a lot of older women since bulking up for New Moon. Now here's a case of art imitating life as Twilight's resident shirtless werewolf is in talks to star in a remake of the 1985 coming of age dramaVision Quest.

Based on the Terry Davis novel, the original starred Matthew Modine as Louden Swain, an 18 year-old high school wrestler who sets out to beat the best high school freestyle wrestler in Washington state. The goal is so far fetched that his friend refers to it as a vision quest (get it?!). But Swain's focus is detoured when his father rents a room to an experienced 21 year old drifter (Linda Forientino in her first role), who Swain is immediately attracted to.

Lautner would be taking on the role of Swain. Granted the 3 year age difference isn't much, you can bet the kid will be sporting those abs much to the excitement of a lot of older women. Like our friends at /Film point out, they may get a lot more mileage out of the Twilight moms if they cast older for the part of Carla.

Producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen have plenty of faith in Lautner. The producing team's Temple Hill Entertainment is one of the companies behind Lautner's Twilight and New Moon films, as well as his upcoming Cancun film. With Lautner locked for an adaptation Max Steel, the kid quickly got off the Twilight blocks and way out in front of his co-stars.

I don't know how big the wrestling (real wrestling) world is or how much of a devoted following the original Vision Quest has. Lautner is a former Karate champion -- you may bave seen his pretty impressive skills in his SNL monologue -- so maybe they'll be taking it out of that world and into competitive martial arts. But I doubt that as it is reported that screen-writer Richard Munic has penned a screenplay that is "very faithful" to the original film.

Sources say that Lautner is "really excited about it", but Warner Bros. is only confirming that the film is in development but is tight lipped on any casting.

What do you think of Taylor Lautner possibly starring in a VISION QUEST remake?
