THE KARATE KID Remake Trailer is Here
The first trailer for Sony Pictures' The Karate Kid remake is here. There’s been a lot of complaints about this movie and I’ve had my share of ranting fits as well. But I'll admit that the trailer doesn’t look as bad as I was expecting. It’s still no Karate Kid though and there’s no way it will be as awesome as the original, but I can definitely see how some people are going to be excited about this.
The movie really has nothing to do with karate for the fact that they are in China fighting in the style of Kung Fu. At one point the movie was called The Kung Fu Kid. The title obviously didn’t sit well with executives so they went back to the original title, probably because they think it will sell more tickets.
The film is being produced by Will Smith and stars his son Jaden Smith as The Karate Kid, Dre, and Jackie Chan as the Mr. Miyagi character renamed, Mr. Han.
Here's the official story Synopsis:
In Columbia Pictures' The Karate Kid, 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.
