What movie do you want to see this weekend? 2/13

by Joey Paur

There really is not much to chose from this week. The biggest movie opening is the 'Friday the 13th' remake, which I am not really excited about, but will probably end up watching because I am interested to see how they bastardized it. Other than that we've got 'The International' which does not interest me at all, and 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' for the ladies. So here the run down! What are you going to see?

Friday the 13th (2009)

Cast: Jared Padalecki, Danielle Panabaker, Amanda Righetti

After the supposed death of her son at a summer camp, a mother begins to kill the camp employees. After her death at the hands of the remaining employees, her son returns to continue her bloody work.

Well, at least Jason is killing again.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Cast: Isla Fisher, Hugh Dancy, Krysten Ritter

Rebecca Bloomwood is a sweet and charming New York City girl who has a tiny, little problem that is rapidly turning into a big problem: she's hopelessly addicted to shopping and drowning in a sea of debt.

While Rebecca has dreams of working for a top fashion magazine, she can't quite get her foot in the door—that is, until she snags a job as an advice columnist for a new financial magazine published by the same company.

Overnight, her column becomes hugely popular, turning her into an overnight celebrity. But when her compulsive shopping and growing debt issues threaten to destroy her love life and derail her career, she struggles to keep it all from spiraling out of control.. and is ultimately forced to reevaluate what's really important in life.

Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers") stars in the film from producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director P.J. Hogan ("My Best Friend's Wedding"), based on the best-selling series of books by British author Sophie Kinsella.

The International

Cast: Clive Owen, Naomi Watts, Armin Mueller-Stahl

In The International, a gripping thriller, Interpol Agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) are determined to bring to justice one of the world's most powerful banks. Uncovering myriad and reprehensible illegal activities, Salinger and Whitman follow the money from Berlin to Milan to New York to Istanbul. Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their relentless tenacity puts their own lives at risk as their targets will stop at nothing - even murder - to continue financing terror and war. Directed by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) from an original screenplay written by Eric Singer, The International is shot on location in Germany and throughout Europe.

Reennnnnntaaaaaal...

Two Lovers - Limited

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, Gwyneth Paltrow, Vinessa Shaw

Two Lovers in an intriguing romantic drama, it tells the story of Leonard (JOAQUIN PHOENIX), an attractive but troubled young man living with his parents (ISABELLA ROSSELLINI and MONI MONOSHOV), in suburban Brooklyn. Leonard encounters two women in quick succession, there is Michelle (GWYNETH PALTROW), a mysterious and beautiful neighbor—exotic and out-of-place in Leonard's staid Brighton Beach neighborhood. But he soon discovers that she too is deeply troubled.

Meanwhile, his parents try to set him up with Sandra (VINESSA SHAW), the lovely and caring daughter of the businessman who is buying out the family dry cleaning business. At first resistant to her appeal (and to his family's pressure), Leonard gradually discovers hidden depths in Sandra, a potential romance with her is complicated, however, when Michelle, her life spiraling out of control, enlists Leonard's help in dealing with the destructive affair she's having with a married man.

Ultimately Leonard is forced to make an impossible decision—between the impetuousness of desire and the comfort of love--or risk falling back into the darkness that nearly killed him.

Looks interesting but not worth going out of my way to see in the theaters. Since Joaquin Phoenix supposedly retired this could be his last movie.

Gomorrah - Limited

Cast: Salvatore Abruzzese, Simone Sacchettino, Salvatore Ruocco

Power, money and blood: these are the "values" that the residents of the province of Naples and Caserta confront every day. They have practically no choice, and are forced to obey the rules of the "System," the Camorra. Only a lucky few can even think of leading a "normal" life.

Five stories woven together in this violent scenario, set in a cruel and ostensibly invented world, but one that is deeply rooted in reality. Based on the controversial, bestselling novel of the same name and winner of the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2008.

This movie looks interesting but I will probably end up renting it.
