Martin Campbell to Direct 'Green Lantern'

by Joey Paur

Wow! This is kind of unexpected! Martin Campbell is currently in negotiations with the studio to direct Green Lantern'. I didn't think Warner Bro's and DC would end up getting a decent director for the live-action 'Green Lantern' film. Campbell most recently directed 'Casino Royal' and just wrapped the Mel Gibson movie 'Edge of Darkness'. Variety reports:

The emergence of Campbell, who also helmed two "Zorro" films and the 007 film "GoldenEye," puts "Green Lantern" at the top of DC properties being set for movie treatment by WB. While the studio is hoping director Chris Nolan will follow its 2008 smash "The Dark Knight" with another Batfilm, DC projects such as Superman and "Justice League" were expected to happen quickly, but have stalled.

Instead, the hot DC titles are "Green Lantern" and "Jonah Hex," the latter of which has Josh Brolin set to play a disfigured gunslinger in a film that begins production in April, directed by Jimmy Heyward ("Horton Hears a Who").

Greg Berlanti wrote the script with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

Well, the 'Green Lantern' seems to be shaping up very nicely. Word on the net is the script is pretty freakin amazing, check out the hype here and that if they pull it off it will be one hell of a fanboy comic book movie. I think putting this film on the fast track is a smart idea for Warner Bros. and DC. I think they need a little more time to tackle Superman again because they can't screw it up next time, and 'Justice League' may be to complicated for them at this point. Green Lantern is a great starting point for something other than Batman. I am also really looking forward to watching it.
