Bryan Singer might Direct Mark Wahlberg in THE PRISONERS
Here we go! Hollywood is about to get into another genre frenzy. Vigilante revenge movies are a big seller right now. With recent hit films like Taken and Gran Torino I think we are about to see a wave of movies about to get made about people going out to kick ass for revenge. EW reports:
Bryan Singer (along with studio execs all over town) has been seriously considering getting his revenge on with The Prisoners, a much-sought-after thriller script to which Mark Wahlberg is attached to star as a Boston dad who takes the law into his own hands when his young daughter is kidnapped. The screenplay, which has been compared to The Silence of the Lambs and Seven, has been buzzed about as a calling card for its unknown writer, Aaron Guzikowski, and as a rare project targeted at adult audiences but with real commercial potential. When asked whether The Prisoners will be his next movie, Singer told EW: "I don't know yet. But I'm definitely intrigued. It's a great script. And I'd love to work with Mark."
How many more daughters are going to have to get kidnapped before people et tired of these movies? Will we even get tired of these movies? I'm fine with them as long as they are good. Another movie that was not mentioned that I really liked that falls into this genre is Kevin Bacon's 'Death Sentence'. Mark Wahlberg seems to fit the profile of a Boston dad that would go out and get revenge for the kidnapping of his daughter, he could pull it off, but I also thought he could pull off that fart of a movie Max Payne. As for Bryan Singer directing it, I'm sure he would do a fine job. I would like to see him make a really good movie again.
It's got to be awesome for the writer of the film Aaron Guzikowski that his script has a lot of buzz behind. Let's hope whoever gets there hands on it will do it justice.
