Bruno nabs an NC-17 Award from the MPAA

by Billy Fisher

That's right folks, Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno has received an NC-17 rating by the MPAA.  Are we surprised?  Here's what Variety has reported:

The ratings board objected to a number of sexual sequences in the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy set to unspool July 10, in which he plays a gay Austrian fashionista.

Studio is hoping to land an R rating for the pic. It's making the necessary edits before resubmitting the pic to the MPAA. The deleted sequences will likely be saved for the DVD release

Could Bruno be pushing the envelope even further than Borat who we watched straddle a naked fat sweaty man over his face?  This is no surprise considering Borat had to do the same process of editing down to an R rating.  So Da Ali G Show fans have no need to despair quite yet.  It looks as though this is an all too familiar process for SBC and his men.

Myself, I loved the show, but I am glad to see his alter ego's ride off into the sunset.   If I knew that the over the top characters were all that SBC had in his bag of tricks, then I would say that he should carry on with his antics.  However, he has shown that he can stand in the acting ring with the big boys.  His performance in Sweeny Todd showed us a glimpse of his true acting potential.  I can't wait to see what he does in the future.  But for now we are going to have to see how far he can stretch the limits of decency.  Well my friends I know that there are a lot of you who enjoy what SBC brings to the table.  So, let me know what you think.  Until next time.
