Paul Battany takes Gerard Butlers Place in the Comic Adaptation of PRIEST

by Joey Paur

As you know, and if you don't then you know now, that Screen Gems is adapting the comic book priest into a live-action film. Gerard Butler was going to star in the film as the lead character but it looked like things didn't work out because today we have news that Paul Battany has taken the role of the warrior priest. I think Bettany is a great choice for the role. The guy is a very good actor and  it's nice to see him take the lead in a movie.

The story is about a priest who disobeys church law by teaming with a young sheriff and a priestess to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest’s niece.

Scott Stewart has been set o direct the film, and Cory Goodman is writing the script. 'Priest' will reunite Bettany and Stewart who both worked together on the movie 'Legion' which is an upcoming supernatural thriller. The trades report:

"I knew the moment I saw Stewart's first cut of 'Legion' that Bettany was Priest and so I mentioned it to him immediately," Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper said.

"Legion," which is set to open next January, is about a group of misfits and an archangel who try to prevent humanity from being wiped out by angels.

I love a good Vampire hunting movie.
