GREEN LANTERN Producer Donald De Line Talks about what to Expect

by Joey Paur

Now that Warner Bros. is moving forward with 'Green Lantern' we couldn't be more excited for what they end up doing with the character Hal Jordan and the story that will be built around him. There has also been a lot of talk about making the film dark like 'The Dark Knight', not sure if that the route they will settle with though. It may end up having more of an Iron man feel to it. So it should be interesting to see what they do and how far they will end up taking the story. This being the first Green Lantern film I assume it will be a origin story which is exactly what Donald De Line tells comingsoon.net in regards to the tone being more in the vein of Iron Man he says:

"I would say the tone absolutely wants to live in that kind of a world, so it's not dark it that regard."

"Our story is the Hal Jordan origin story, but creating the character of Hal Jordan that is a real character that will resonate with the fanbase is what we need to do. You have to make him credible and somebody to care about and tell a good story, and I think if we do that, we'll be okay."

If they can do that they will be ok. As long as they build a solid and awesome story around the character using the source material they have to work with they should be fine. There is no reason for them not to get an incredible movie out of the character 'Green Lantern'. When he was asked if there would be any humor in the film De Line replied:

"It's going to be a series of big stakes and big action, but it absolutely has a sense of humor. I think people accept real life, even with really serious situations, with humor as part of that situation, as we experience in life, you have to have that. That's how people cope, so they've done it so well in these other movies. I think that people are absolutely ready. It doesn't have to fall on one side of the fence vs. the other."

As far as casting goes as you know it seems like with all the rumors they are going after someone a little younger for the role. According to De Line that is not the case. He denied the intention of casting a younger actor. He seems to be keeping an open mind on the age of who they cast. You wont see someone like Anton Yelchin in there. He responds:

"Not really, late '20s, early '30s."

So there ya have it! That is the latest news on what is going on with Warner Bros. Green Lantern film. I can't wait to see how this turns out. The movie opens up Dec. 17, 2010.
