JOHN CARTER FROM MARS Movie Update with a New Screenwriter

by Joey Paur

It has been quite a long time since we have heard anything on the film adaptation of 'John Carter From Mars'. We know that it is being developed and that it is currently in the casting phase. Andrew Stanton will direct the film for Disney, his credits include 'Finding Nemo' and 'Wall-E'. Apparently it will start shooting in South Australia next year. So everything is coming together nicely.

Now things have gotten even better with the hiring of Michael Chabon to go through and revise the script already written by Andrew Stanton and Mark Andrews. If you don't know who Chabon is he wrote the incredibly solid Spider-Man 2 script and is the author of 'The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay'. Due to Nikki Finke reporting that Chabon is getting screenwriting credit on the film he recently confirmed this with his fan site saying:

“I’ve been hired to do some revisions to an already strong script by Andrew Stanton and Mark Andrews,” Chabon said. “I wrote my original screenplay The Martian Agent back in 1995 because I wished I could do [Edgar Rice] Burroughs’s Barsoom. So this is pretty much a dream come true for me.”

I am pretty excited for this film and it is expected to hit theaters in 2012!
