Sci-Fi Channels THE PHANTOM Concept Art, Casting and Details
We did a report not to long ago that talked about the upcoming TV Shows that will be developed over at the Sci-Fi channel which will soon be called the Syfy Channel. One of the shows they are developing is based on the purple comic book character The Phantom. Producer Robert Halmi has said:
“That there hasn’t been a successful ‘Phantom’ leaves the door wide open for us, since nobody has made it their own yet,”
He does have a point. I am actually looking forward to he series and hope it ends up being good. I also really think The Phantom costume design is pretty cool. It is quite an improvement from the original costume. Syfy has also cast the lead role for the main character, Ryan Carnes who has been in shows such as 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Doctor Who'. I'm not sold on that casting decision. The show will take place in the present day and will be a two night, four hour event that will show some time in 2010. If it does well, it will become a full on series.
Also staring in the show is Isabella Rossellini who will play the villain Lithia who is the head of an experimental mind-control program. Cameron Goodman will play Renny, the lead character's love interest and Sandrine Holt from '24' will play Guran The Phantoms advisor.
Here is how Muse Entertainment describes the Phantom's suit:
"The Phantom's body suit is woven of a high-tech, nano-matrix, dark purple fabric, which is pliable, soft and also glitters with a dark metallic sheen. The fabric is a layered micro-weave of Kevlar, Twaron and Heracron fibers, skinned with a titanium-ceramic alloy neurosymbioticmesh, resistant to heat, bladed weapons, falls, impacts and small-arms fire.
"The nano-matrix fabric actually receives and amplifies intra-muscular nerve transmissions from the person wearing the suit to affect its density and movement-similar to modern bio-electronic prosthetics. Like an insect's exoskeleton, the mesh amplifies by a factor of 2.5 times the Phantom's normal output.
"The Phantom's ballistic vest and cowl helmet/mask are reinforced with contoured Chobham armor plates and wired for cellular and radio communication. The Phantom also wears black fatigues, and his purple and black boots are similar to sticky-soled rock-climbing shoes."
