UP: Movie Review

Hey everyone!  Lola here. Yesterday I had the wonderful opportunity of catching the latest Pixar/Disney flick, UP. Before the movie began, though, they showed the audience the trailer for the latest Disney animated 2D film, the Princess and the Frog. The Princess and the Frog is one of my most anticipated movies this year so seeing this awesome trailer on the big screen was a really cool.  They also showed the audience the teaser trailer for the next Pixar film, Toy Story 3, which comes out in 2010.

The audience got a chance to check out Pixar's latest animated short before the feature film entitled Partly Cloudy. Its a really cute story about a stork that delivers babies and the cloud that he works with up in the sky.  The cloud  creates the babies but there is a funny little twist to it. It wasn't my favorite Pixar short (my favorite was Jerry's Game), but still pretty good.

Now onto the feature:  Up was AMAZING!  By far in my opinion the best movie to come out of Pixar's studios.  Yes, even better then the beloved Incredibles.

The story is about a man named Carl (voiced by Ed Asner) who is older in age and wants to fulfill one of his life long dream of traveling to South America.  He does this by lifting his home off its base with tons of balloons. Hilarity begins when Russell is introduced.  Russell is a young boy who accidentally gets lifted off with Carl's home and together they travel to South America  and begin a great adventure together.

The movie is absolutely beautiful.  The animation is breathtaking, the story is hilarious and heart warming.  I'm warning you all right now:  I promise you will tear up.  My favorite scene in the whole movie is when the balloons are first introduced.  The colors are absolutely vibrant. Michael Giacchino did the music and it was also totally spot on.  It set the mood for the film.  Giacchino also did the music for Star Trek and LOST.  I would very highly recommend this film to all.  The kids in the audience loved it and I'm sure there is something for everyone in it.  Here are a few fun facts I from IMDB about the film:

  • The first Pixar film to be made for the Disney Digital 3-D format.

  • The first Pixar film since Finding Nemo (2003) not to be presented in the 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

  • The first Michael Giacchino-scored Pixar film not directed by Brad Bird.

  • Very first animated film as well as the first 3D film ever to open the Cannes Film Festival.

  • The first Pixar film to be given a PG rating since The Incredibles(2004).

Enjoy everyone !
