Jonah Hill Gives an Update on his '21 JUMP STREET' Movie
I don't know if you know this or not but there is a movie being made based on the classic 80's TV show '21 Jump Street'. We reported on this a whiole back when it was first announced, but since that report we have heard nothing on the project until now. The new information comes from the writer himself Jonah Hill. Yes, that funny guy Jonah Hill is writing the script for '21 Jump Street', and yes there is going to be comedy involved. He say's the show itself was always a comedy...
"Yeah, if you look at the opening episode of ‘21 Jump Street,' you see a man looking at a picture of a cop holding a little boy's hand, and you hear a crazy saxophone solo, and you pan up and it's Johnny Depp looking at the picture playing the crazy saxophone solo. We're not even spoofing the movie. It's not strictly comedic, either. We're doing a full-on action movie, blowing s*** up."
I never watched the TV show so I am on neutral ground here. However the parts that I have seen were pretty laughable. So I can see why he would want to take it into the comedic direction. Apparently Sony Pictures has given Hill full control of the project, meaning he can do whatever he wants.
“[Sony execs said] they were gonna let me make my kind of movie — an R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie — and I told them the second they don’t, I’m not gonna be involved anymore,”
I am shocked to hear that Hill has that kind of power in Hollywood. The guy has only played that same guy in every movie he has been in, he is a character actor. I'm not saying he's not funny, I'm just trying to figure out how he has that power that anyone would care if he left the project or not. This is the first script he has written for cryin' out loud! I have no idea how the movie will turn out. I guess we will find out soon enough if Jonah hill can make a good movie.
