UPDATE ____________________________________

Dwayne Johnson has not been cast in '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo'. Production Weekly admitted their mistake via twitter today saying:

Correction: Dwayne Johnson not involved in Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo"

Production Weekly really needs to learn to get their facts strait before they put that information out there.

'20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo' will be McG's next big budget film after 'Terminator Salvation', and It looks like they have already cast the main character in the film. Is it any surprise that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been cast in the Disney film? Last we heard Will Smith was in the running for the role. I guess that didn't work out. This movie will supposedly take a look at how Jules Verne's classic character Captain Nemo created his underwater vessel, the Nautilus. The plot synopsis for the film has also been released.

A fugitive whaler teams up with a naturalist, a mysterious woman and a captain of a futuristic submarine, to search for a lost underwater civilization that holds libraries of vast knowledge and a weapon with the power to destroy mankind.

I assume that Johnson was cast in the role as the fugitive whaler. I can see him as a character in this kind of world. Maybe Will Smith will be cast as the Captain?I am interested to see how this movie turns out. It is currently in active development in Australia. If McG delivers the goods on 'Terminator Salvation', like it looks like he has, then this guy is going to be directing more and more of these big budget films like this. I wonder what he has planned for 20,000 Leagues visually. Will it be modern or retro? I could see it have a very cool steam punk style. I guess we'll have to wait and see. What are your thoughts on Dwayne Johnson being cast in the film?
