I gotta be honest, I'm shocked to see Katie Holmes out and about and cast in a horror film. She has been off the map for some time. Now, all of a sudden she will star in the Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins scripted remake of 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark'. Del Toro is also producing the film as Troy Nixey his protege directs it. I find it funny that anyone directing a film being produced by Del Toro is called his "protege". Variety reports:

The film will shoot this summer in Melbourne as a "Guillermo del Toro Presentation."

"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" is based on a 1973 ABC telepic about a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and discovers they are sharing the house with devilish creatures.

Nixey, a comicbook artist, is making his feature directing debut. Del Toro sparked to "Latchkey's Lament," a Nixey-directed short that captured the tone del Toro wanted for "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."

I always love a good horror film. Are you excited for this movie? Personally I never thought Katie Holmes was a good actress, has she improved on her abilities since she has not done anything for awhile? This is the first movie she has been cast in worth talking about since 'Batman Begins'.
