Okay, as promised, here are my results…
My original predictions for the top five were…
5. Terminator Salvation 10.5 million
4. The Hangover 15.2 million
3. Night at the Museum 16.8 million
2. Land of the Lost 22.4 million
1. UP 38.6 million
Here’s what really happened…
1. The Hangover – 45 million
2. Up – 44.1 million
3. Land of the Lost – 18.8 million
4. Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian – 14.6 million
5. Star Trek – 8.3 million
I WAS WRONG…
Despite Up being projected higher as of Sunday (and we even reported it as number one on the podcast, which we record live Sunday nights), The Hangover was a shocking smash with 45 million in its opening weekend. I had The Hangover at only a third of this take. What an idiot I was! At least I can say no one else saw this coming either.
I WAS RIGHT…
Land of the Lost was a huge disappointment. I thought 22.4 million was a sluggish start, but this movie didn’t even crack 20 mil. Sad. This movie just couldn’t figure out what it wanted to be. And it pleased no one by not making a decision. By the way, this was not a prediction, just a very STUPID statement by yours truly. Land of the Lost is NOT A FAMILY film. That was part of the problem. This movie would have had more success just going full R with Ferrell and McBride. Kids shouldn’t see this movie. You’ve been warned!
I WAS RIGHT…
Drag Me to Hell did not clear 9 million. It barely cleared 7.
I WAS WRONG, but sort of right at the same time…
Though I called Terminator Salvation to come in 5th, I also claimed it as “prediction I am most afraid of.” I said it sucked. Actually, my exact quote was “Terminator sucked. Really. A whole lot. So maybe Star Trek edges it out.” Well, Star Trek edged it out, by 63,000! That’s like if 10 of your friends would have seen Terminator over the weekend, it would have been #5. Okay, maybe a few more than 10.
Well, there you have it! I was right on a couple I was wrong on a couple. I will try to do better this weekend.
HERE ARE THE READERS’ PREDICTIONS…
NOBBY – YOU WERE WRONG!
Though you had Hangover making a touch more than me, you were still way, way off the weekend take. Don’t take it so hard. No one saw that coming. Also, you look really sad on your “Lost” prediction. If my math is correct, you had it making around 44 million, and being number one this weekend. It’s okay. You can do better this weekend too.
