WORLD WAR Z Film Gets a New Screenwriter

One Zombie film I am really looking forward to seeing up on the big screen is the adaptation of World War Z. This is bound to be the biggest, most epic zombie film we have ever seen! Last year J. Michael Stracynski wrote a screenplay for the film that was getting a lot of strong buzz from AICN who said:

This is a horror epic, a serious, sober-minded adult picture waiting to be made, and it’s one of the best pieces of screenwriting craft I’ve encountered in a while. It’s not often I get excited by the actual words on the page as a read, but JMS pulled it off here

Very high praise, one that is pretty exciting for any film and zombie lover. So, why in the bloody hell has Paramount Pictures hired a new guy to re-write the script!? The new guy is Matthew Michael Carnahan who wrote films such as The Kingdom, Lions for Lambs, and State of Play. Fangoria reports author Max Brooks saying:

“He’s one of Hollywood’s hot A-list writers, so if they went after him and paid him a mountain of gold, it definitely shows their confidence in this project,”

I wonder if they are looking at softening up the script a bit, because according to AICN, it was pretty hardcore. I don't know why else they would bring in another screenwriter, one that has written one good film,  The Kingdom, the other two were boring and as uninteresting as a movie could get, but that's just me.

I really want to see a freakin awesome World War Z movie, but at this point I'm not sure what to expect. Marc Foster is still attached to direct the film though so that's a plus. If you don't know, he directed James Bond and the Quantum of Solace.

What do ya think?
