Wolfgang Petersen to develop Live-Action PAPRIKA Movie

It looks like director Wolfgang Petersen is going to develop a live-action version of Paprika, which is based off of the incredibly trippy book and anime film. Petersen has directed films such as Troy, The Perfect Storm and Poseidon. Paprika would definitely be his most psychedelic film. I wonder if he even has that kind of crazy imagination to take on the project that was created Satoshi Kon.

Three scientists at the Foundation for Psychiatric Research fail to secure a device they've invented, the D.C. Mini, which allows people to record and watch their dreams. A thief uses the device to enter people's minds, when awake, and distract them with their own dreams and those of others. Chaos ensues. The trio - Chiba, Tokita, and Shima - assisted by a police inspector and by a sprite named Paprika must try to identify the thief as they ward off the thief's attacks on their own psyches. Dreams, reality, and the movies merge, while characters question the limits of science and the wisdom of Big Brother.

Paprika is so visually stimulating that the person directing must have an insane imagination to get it right. I loved the anime film, the story is perfect for the art style, I don't even think the story can be told in it full potential in a live action setting. The perfect director for this live action film though would have to be Terry Gilliam, he is the only director I think that has the imagination to pull it off. What do you all think?
