Director Frank Darabont, who brought us films such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist, is now going to take on a different territory by invading the AMC network with a TV zombie drama series, based on the Image Comics graphic novel by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead. A deal is being set up where Darabont will write and direct the the series adaptation. Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion are also on board to produce.

Personally I think it will be awesome to see Darabont work with Zombies! I've heard they are incredibly hard to direct due to the fact that they are brain dead, but Darabont is a great director, and if anyone can do it, he can. I think we will also see some very good production value in this series, I just don't think Darabont would get involved if it's not going to look really good.

Like most zombie films, the story is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.

AMC's Joel Stillerman says the project appealed to the station because there is great quality of storytelling, and that the series will stay faithful to the graphic novel.

This is not about zombies popping out of closets. This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world (in 'Walking Dead') is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way. We've got an audience that loves this kind of material.

I am definitely part of this audience! I love zombie films, I think Frank Darabont is a great director and I am really looking forward to this new Zombie series that will be developed for AMC. What do you all think?
