The director of V for Vendetta and the upcoming film Ninja Assassin, James McTeigue, is taking on a period thriller called The Raven which will be a fictionalized story of the last five mysterious days of Edgar Allen Poe's life. This fictionalized story follows Poe as he joins the hunt for a serial killer whose murders are inspired by his own stories. McTeigue tells /film:

"It's like the poem, The Raven, itself, crossed with Se7en. It should be pretty cool. The script is really good and everyone responds to it really well. I'm in the middle of casting."

I like how he just compared it to the movie seven, I can only imagine this type of crazy story set in the time that Poe lived. If you don't know much about the life of Poe his death really was pretty mysterious and interesting.

Poe was found delirious on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland, "in great distress, and ... in need of immediate assistance", according to the man who found him, Joseph W. Walker. He was wearing someone else's clothes, and repeating the name Reynolds. He was taken to the Washington College Hospital, where he died at 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 7. Poe was never coherent enough to explain how he came to be in this condition.

So the movie will most likely lead up to this moment, and a fictionalized version of how he came to be in this state. The screenplay was written by Hannah Shakespeare, and Ben Livingston. I wonder who they will cast as Poe, any suggestions?

If you have never read The Raven I have embedded a version of it being read by Christopher Walken, who is by far the best person to be reading this Poem.
