It looks like the duo behind Body of Lies, Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio will be teaming up again. This time to bring Aldous Huxley’s highly regarded dystopian themed novel, Brave New World World to the big-screen.

THR reports that the project is being set up at Universal, where Scott will produce the project with an eye to direct. And Leonardo DiCaprio, meanwhile, will produce with an eye to star.

The studio has brought on Farhad Safinia, who penned Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, to pen the script for Brave New World.

Scott had casually mentioned several times that he would like to take on the classic 1931 novel, which DiCaprio's banner Appian Way owns. But the studio details and DiCaprio’s personal involvement have been unclear. But now a writer is on board and Scott's Scott Free banner and Appian execs have been meeting frequently during the past six months. The project has more momentum, but remains very much at the development stage.

So most of the timing will depend on how fast Safinia can bust out a script the studio is happy with. Scott has no directing gigs lined up beyond his Gladiator-esque take on Robin Hood which is shooting in England. And DiCaprio has no commitments after he finishes shooting the Christopher Nolan's adventure tale Inception.

Huxley sets Brave New World in a seemingly perfect 26th century world that has achieved harmony by tightly controlling birth, which takes place mainly in laboratories, and outlawing family. The world is populated by a series of five castes, each with its own defined roles.

Characters who figure in to the story are Bernard, a lower-caste member, and Lenina, the woman with whom he is infatuated. DiCaprio would likely play Bernard, who is persecuted when the leaders of the society find his behavior antisocial.

Scott is one of the few who could take on such highly regarded work as Brave New World. The director adapted Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep into the 1982 cult classic Blade Runner. While the movie divided critics and was a dud at the box office, it has had a long life on video and is often referred to as "The one film that can't/shouldn't be re-made." A high praise in a day and age where Hollywood announces plans for new remakes on a daily basis.
