FOX Developing a Sci-Fi Western Series

I was wondering if we would ever see a new sci-fi western on the small screen. It was only a matter of time before it happened. The last sci-fi western that I really enjoyed was Firefly. I don't think there has really been anything since that went off the air. I wish I could say Firefly is coming back but that just isn't the case. This new series comes from Scott Rosenbaum who is an executive producer on the NBC show Chuck, and is coming from Warner Bros. TV and Wonderland Sound and Vision which is McG's production company. This means that he is also unfortunately a producer on the series. McG has produced two other series for FOX, The OC which got canceled after 3 seasons, and Fastlane which was a bomb.

The untitled  series is described as an epic Western with a sci-fi twist, the show will revolve around a gunslinger caught between worlds and will feature a nod to Planet of the Apes. Rosenbaum says:

What I'm really interested in is the revamping of the Western genre where you still have all of the iconic Western themes and iconic Western tropes but the idea is that it will feel incredibly contemporary and will introduce the Western to a whole new generation.

Rosenbaum seems pretty excited about the project. Apparently hae has been wanting to develop a series like this for years. It should be interesting to see how it plays out. I never got on the Chuck bandwagon, but McG's first two TV series attempts didn't do too well. I love the idea of a sci-fi western, but I don't think this is the one we were all waiting for. I hope I'm wrong. What do you think of the new project and the people involved?
