James Cameron gets Involved with a 3D Underwater Adventure called SANCTUM
I know what your thinking, "Please, not another James Cameron Underwater documentary." That what I first thought when I saw this news, but this little film actually sounds pretty damn incredible. Universal Pictures and James Cameron's Relativity are teaming up to release the 3D drama called, Sanctum.
The film is being written by Andrew Write and John Garvin. Andrew Wright is a long-time associate of Cameron's who help develop the 3D technology seen in the documentaries like Aliens of the Deep and Ghosts of the Abyss. It is this 3D technology that will be used to film the adventure based on Wight's own real near-death experience of leading a diving expedition miles into a system of underwater caves, then having to find a way out after a freak storm collapsed the entrance.
The movie will be directed by Alister Grierson (Kokoda). It will have a budget of $30 million dollars, and will shoot later this year in Australia, with the goal of being released in about 2,000 theaters late 2010.
I love movies based on true story like this. I can't imagine what an experience like that would be like. They could have died! This must have been a truly terrifying experience. One I would gladly watch up on screen but not want to be a part of. What do you all think?
