For most of you out there, here's your first glimpse at some of the insane and intense action from writer/director Michael J. Bassett's Solomon Kane, an adaptation of Conan the Barbarian author Robert E. Howard's collection of stories The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane.

James Purefoy stars as the 16th century soldier Solomon Kane, who learns his life as a murderous pirate, has damned him. Determined to redeem himself, Kane swears to live a life of peace and goodness but is forced to fight once more when a dark power threatens the land. Rachel Hurd-Wood(Peter Pan) also stars as a the kidnapped girl Kane must save.

This fairly low budget action adventure film managed to stay under the radar. It was absolutely the best and biggest surprise when they debuted footage at their Comic-Con Panel. Though it seems to take place in the world of LOTR's Middle Earth, the action in Solomon Kane is much more brutal and bloodier! Case in point, at the panel they explained that when they researched the swords of that period, they were mainly a stabbing weapon. So the sword was used more to break bones, and they are accurately depict that aspect of gruesomeness in Kane.

I'm very happy that Bassett and Purefoy plan to make several more of these films as well!!!

Here's the Russian Trailer and yes, sadly it's dubbed... by what seems like one guy). Solomon Kane hits theaters December 31st, 2009.
