Jeff Bridges and the Coens to Reunite for TRUE GRIT redo
Jeff Bridges is in discussions with Paramount to reunite with his Big Lebowski writer/directors Joel and Ethan Coen, for thier redo of True Grit. Bridges would take on the role that won John Wayne an Academy Award for his performance in the 1969 original.
The Coens have redrafted the script to be a more faithful adaptation to the Charles Portis novel on which the original film was based.
The story centers on the 14-year-old tomboy Mattie Ross, who tags along with an aging U.S. marshal, Rooster Cogburn(Bridges), to track the outlaw who killed her father, and another lawman named Labeouf, looking for the same man for a seperate murder. Their odyssey takes them from Fort Smith, Arkansas, deep into the Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma) to find their man.
In the 1969 original, the story was told from Cogburn's point of view, but the new version will work from the viewpoint of Ross.
The picture will also reunite the Coens with their No Country for Old Men producing partner Scott Rudin.
The Coens' A Serious Man will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Bridges stars in the upcoming comedy The Men Who Stare at Goats slated for a Nov. 6th release, and reprised his role as Kevin Flynn in Tron: Legacy, set for a Dec. 17th, 2010 release.
