Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Liv Tyler in superhero comedy SUPER
Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Liv Tyler are set to take on the superhero genre in James Gunn's aptly titled comedy, Super.
Ted Hope will produce Super through his Gotham-based This Is That banner.
Super, written and to be directed by Gunn, centers on an average guy(Wilson) who takes on the pseudo-superhero alter ego of the Crimson Bolt, after watching his wife (Tyler) fall under the spell of a charming drug dealer. Lacking super powers, he compensates by swinging a trusty wrench.
The former husband of Wilson's The Office co-star Jenna Fischer, Gunn scripted Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake, both live-action Scooby-Doo films, and made his feature directing debut with his 2006 comic horror film Slither.
I's glad to see Rainn Wilson getting a more promising starring role, as I steered clear of the Rocker. He had a bit part in Page's Juno, and was absolutely unneeded and unfunny in Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen... but I don't blame him for that. When he's given the right tools, he's comic gold. I'm interested to see how far they take the costume. Will it be something ratty and homemade like Woody Harrelson's Defendor costume? Or will it be tight and colorful? How silly he'll look is half the comedy right there.
Production for Super will begin in December.
