IRON MAN 2 Might Be Converted to 3D
Good Grief. I have more 3D news to throw at your face. Sorry everyone, but all this 3D movie stuff is really starting to become annoying. As cool as 3D can be, there is just a point where enough is enough. I was 100% fine that I was going to get to see Iron Man 2 in regular movie going fashion, but it looks like we may end up getting the option to watch it in 3D, and being the movie geek that I am, I will most likely pay the extra $5 bucks to see it in 3D. Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I wasn't such a hardcore movie geek. I would probably save a lot of money. Here is what Ain't It Cool News is reporting:
Right now, there is a 1 minute demo of IRON MAN 2 converted to high quality digital 3D. I'm told this one minute is totally like Kim Basinger & Mickey Rourke in 9 1/2 WEEKS. HOT! Crazy Hot! Right now the Suits at Marvel & Paramount & now also Disney are considering this 1 minute.
At the same time that this is happening, they are fishing for bids with 3 different companies to see what the cost and time it would take to convert IRON MAN 2 to a complete 3D film. This same process is being done to Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND - but if this comes to pass. What will this mean for the rest of Marvel's slate leading to THE AVENGERS? Will THOR & CAPTAIN AMERICA also go through this process? Or will they be shot from the get go in 3D.
Iron Man 2 is already shot and in the can. It was not shot in 3D, so it will have to go through a conversion process that wont be as awesome as James Cameron's Avatar, the 3D will most likely not even be as good as The Final Destination because it was shot using the 3D technology. When a 2D film is converted into 3D the effect is created by essentially creating a 3D environment and graphing the original 2D image on to a 3D polygon. You still have a 2D image, it is just wrapped around a 3D computer wire-mold.
So it's still not a for sure thing, but even if Iron Man 2 doesn't get converted this raises the strong possibility that that the future Marvel films will get the 3D treatment. Personally I don't think the movies need a 3D makeover, but if it happens I'll watch them, because that's what I do.
