Here's some news that we've been waiting for for a loooong time now!

Last month, after the dust settled on the bidding war to distribute Matthew Vaughn's feature adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s comic book series Kick-Ass, Lionsgate came out victorious. Now the company has picked a release date...

Kick-Ass will be released late in the spring on April 16, 2010.

KICK-ASS tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name -Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.
His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and her father, Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage).

In some not so good news, Lionsgate has moved Sylvester Stallone's action movie The Expendables, back four months from April 23rd to August 20th, 2010. Not a good sign for Sly's film which co-stars Jason Statham, Jet Li and Mickey Rourke. Or maybe it's so they can focus on the highly buzzed Kick-Ass.

So are you marking your calenders to Kick-Ass on April 16th? Are you juicing up for the Expendables on August 20th?
