Paul W.S. Anderson will take on THE THREE MUSKETEER'S
I never would have thought The Three Musketeer's was Paul W.S. Anderson material, in fact, if a new Three Musketeer's movie is going to be made he is not the guy that should be doing it. For those of you not familiar with his work, he made Resident Evil, Alien Vs. Predator, Death Race, and a few other films.
Did I mention he wants to make the film in... wait for it... 3D! "Oh brother," followed by a roll of the eyes. Yep, he wants to do it in 3D. He is producing the film with Impact Pictures partner Jeremy Bolt and Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film. Constantin, with whom Impact has a joint venture, will finance the production.
Anderson wrote the script with Andrew Davies, who wrote Bridget Jones's Diary, and The Tailor of Panama. The two knew each other at England’s University of Warwick, and Anderson brought in Davis because he felt he could help develop a strong character driven script, with a mix of action and romance.
Here is what Anderson had to say regarding what he plans on doing with the classic story:
We are definitely modernizing ‘The Three Musketeers’ without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece, but in our film, corsets and feathered hats don’t take center stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure.
Good Grief. I gotta say I'm not sold. There have been several films made out of the 1844 Alexandre Dumas tale. Most of them have been very fun, but the one that lives on in my mind is the 1993 Disney version that starred Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Oliver Platt and Chris O’Donnell. I don't know why that is, I haven't even seen it since it came out on VHS in 1994. The new 3D film will start shooting next year with a 2011 release date.
What are your thoughts on Anderson developing a 3D three Musketeer film?
