Movie MarvelPopeye by Eli Reyes

Marvel head Avi Arad recently acquired the rights to Popeye, in hopes of rebooting the franchise by bringing it back to the big screen. First appearing in comic strips in 1929, Popeye the Sailor has since become a world wide icon, entering into public domain in most countries. The spinach eating strongman has been featured in comic books, cartoons, and television shows. The last time he was on the big-screen, was in the 1980 film starring Robin Williams, with Shelly Duvall as Popeye's love interest Olive Oyl.

But Arad plans to forego the large prosthetics that would be necessary in a live-action feature, instead opting to bring us an entirely CGI Popeye!

Hopefully they can get Futurama's Billy West to voice the Popeye the Sailor Man! He did it for the recent 3D video game (pictured above), as well as spots for Drawn Together. He's one of the only people I know who can do the simultaneous "two-voice" performance required for Popeye's iconic voice, originally done by Jack Mercer. It's the weirdest thing to hear!!!

Here's the video of Billy West  explaining how it's done.

I actually prefer a CGI Popeye over a live-action. His features are too out of proportioned to not look grotesque when real.

So what do you think of Marvel's Avi Arad making a CGI Popeye movie???
