AREA 51 Video Game Adaptation Gets a Paranormal Director

MovieArea 51by Joey Paur

We reported last year that the Area 51 video game was getting a big screen adaptation. The script was being written by comic book author Grant Morrison. It looks like Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to the game back in 2004, and now they are going to move forward with it. They are bring on Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli to direct the movie. I have yet to see Paranormal Activity, we tried to see it last night, but they told us we weren't going to get in because they insanely overbooked.  4,500 people showed up!

Here is a little description of what Area 51 will be about.

A viral outbreak shuts down a research facility, the scientific and military personnel are locked inside under quarantine, and a small special forces unit led by the hazardous materials division investigates. In the game, the main character from HAZMAT discovers that the mutated virus controls the minds of those infected, as well as an ancient alien colony buried beneath the facility, and he has to solve several mysteries and uncover many conspiracies – including men in black to the Illuminati – to prevent the virus from being released and mutating life on Earth.

It should be interesting to see how Peli tackles this Area 51 story. Paranormal Activity was all shot in his house with a camcorder, now well  see what he can do with a budget.
