After Heath Ledger passed away Terry Gilliam wanted to honor his memory by finishing the movie they started together, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. As you have heard and seen in the new trailer, all of the fantasy scenes in the film have different actor playing the character that Heath played. These actors include; Colin Ferrell, Jude Law, and Johnny Depp.

Now word has hit the street that Tom Cruise wanted to play the role as well, and Terry Gilliam turned him down. Gilliam told Total Film:

I'm not sure if it was Tom or his agent [who put Cruise forward for the role]. I know there was a period when Tom's agents were keen. The thing is, I was only interested in people who were friends of Heath. Simple as that. I wanted to keep it in the family.

I'm so glad Tom was not cast in the movie. It's good to know that there are filmmakers in the world who will say NO to the ultra mega stars. Not many people will tell them no. I think it would have taken the magic out of the movie. What do you all think?
