Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd team back up for the Demetri Martin Scripted comedy WILL

 

Paramount is pairing their I Love You Man star Paul Rudd back up with his upcoming Dinner for Schmucks co-star Zach Galifianakis for the comedy Will.

Little Miss Sunshine helmers Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton are directing the script written by stand-up comedian/actor Demetri Martin. Back in 2006 Martin, pitched the script to Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks studio head Adam Goodmac, who bought it right away. The project has since moved to Paramount.

Will follows Rudd as an ordinary guy who lives in a world where people's lives and destinies are being written by scribes in Heaven. The man wakes up one day to find that his heavenly writer (Galifianakis) has decided to no longer draft his life, and he must go about his day unscripted, ending up on a journey to fulfill his hidden potential.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez Productions is on board to produce. Martin was supposed to have a supporting role in the film when it was first purchased, but with the change of hands Demetri's on-screen involvement remains to be seen.

The film kind of sounds like Stranger Than Fiction, Year One, and for some odd reason The Invention of Lying -- the alternate reality part of it I guess. 

This is the first feature since Little Miss Sunshine for Faris and Dayton, I'm hoping they've held out these past few years for something good. As for the paring or repairing of Rudd and Galifiankakis, where can you go wrong? I believe they have already wrapped on Schmucks, so the chemistry on that must have been good enough for the studio to put them back together. But the premise of Will doesn't exactly lend itself to the two interacting all that much, if at all -- but that's just speculation on my part, I'm sure there's a confrontation of some sort. Plus, Galifianakis as a disgruntled angel in a white robe and sandals alone would be priceless.
