Bryan Cranston joins the cast of Pixar's JOHN CARTER OF MARS

Disney has added two time Emmy-winning actor Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm In the Middle) to the cast of their live-action and CGI adaptation of John Carter of Mars which is set to roll cameras next week.

Andrew Stanton (Wall-E, Finding Nemo) is directing and co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Andrews

Adaptation from the Edgar Rice Burroughs book series, John Carter of Mars centers on a Civil War veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where he becomes involved with the planet's warring people.

Cranston will take on the role of a Civil War colonel who comes into conflict with Carter, played by Taylor Kitsch (TV's Friday Night Lights, X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Cranston will make a fine addition (albeit last minute) to the cast which also includes Kitsch's Wolverine co-star Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton and Polly Walker.

Jim Morris (Wall-E) and Colin Wilson (Avatar, Munich) are producing John Carter of Mars which is set for a 2012 release.

Everything we've heard about the film sounds great. With production starting, I can't wait to actually see some of the CG creatures, and set designs! Hopefully we'll be seeing something from this soon.
