Now Sony wants Nimrod Antal to Direct the SPIDER-MAN Movie Reboot?

Just yesterday news hit that (500) Days of Summer director Marc Webb was at the top of Sony Pictures' director list for the Spider-Man reboot. Today Quite Earth comes in and says no, Predators director Nimrod Antal is on the top of that list. So which one is it!?

I'm sure they have a decent sized list of names of directors that they are going to meet with over the next couple months. But only one will win.  Quite Earth's sources say that Nimrod Antal is the director that is REALLY at the top of Sam Raimi's and Sony's list to take over the Spider-Man franchise, not Marc Webb which was reported yesterday.

At this point, how much of a say does Sam Raimi really have over this Spider-Man reboot project anyway? He left the project and is moving on, so what does he care what Sony does with the franchise now? This is why I think this bit of news is a little shady. I seriously doubt Sony was like, "Hey Sam, now that your leaving the project who would you like to direct the Spider-Man film reboot?" Unless they made him a producer. Here's how they say the story goes:

Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, Vacancy. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct Armored. Now, Predators is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spiderman.

How solid is this information? I don't know! Every blog has sources these days and not all of them are right. I'm still more excited about the prospect of Marc Webb directing he film. I haven't seen Nimrod do anything different or unique in the films that he has made so far. They have been fun, but mediocre films. Webb seems to have the better imagination out of the two.

I'm sure as time goes on we will here about more directors being on the top of Sony's list. In the end we will eventually find out out who will direct. In the mean time the director prospects makes for a great discussion!

What do you think about Nimrod Antal directing the next Spider-Man film? Who would you like to see direct the reboot?
