Mel Gibson Talks about his VIKING FILM and MAD MAX 4

Movie Mel Gibson by Joey Paur

In a recent press conference for the upcoming Mel Gibson film Edge of Darkness, Gibson talked about a couple different film projects that have been in the news recently that many people have been wondering about. These movies include Mad Max 4, and and his upcoming Viking movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, which sounds incredibly interesting.

Here is what he had to say regarding the Viking film that he will be directing.

I'm working with Graham on a Viking movie. And the very first idea I ever had about making a film and my first thought about being a filmmaker was when I was 16 years old and I wanted to make a Viking movie. And I wanted to make it in Old Norse. Which I was studying at the time. And it was like...it's odd because at that age that's a stupidly ridiculous idea because how will I ever be a filmmaker? And that's just a dumb idea. It's just some kind of romantic pipe dream. But that was the first, big, epic wacky idea I ever had, was to show Viking real.

Does this mean that the dialogue in the movie will be spoken in the language of the Vikings? As you know he has no problem using the actual language of the setting and time his stories are placed in.

I think it's going to be English. The English that would have been spoken back then, and Old Norse. Whatever the 9th Century had to offer, I'm going to give you real.

So yes, we are definitely going to get some primitive form of English in this movie, it should be really interesting to see this Viking film idea brought to life. I'm really looking forward to it and you know Gibson is great at paying attention to the little details in the films that he makes. This is sure to be just as great as his other films. There are so many Viking stories to tell, I wonder which one he will end up making, or if it will be a completely original story.

As for Mad Max 4, here is what he had to say.

I talked to George. We had a good chin wag. I talk to George anyway so you know, I'm abreast of that. I know he's been trying to do this for years, the 4th installment. At one point I was involved, then it fell to bits, and now it's probably gone through a lot of changes and I can't wait to see it.

From the sound of it he's not going to have any kind of role in the film at all, which is kind of a bummer. Life goes on and the movie will get made, lets just hope it's as badass as the original.

What do you think about what Gibson had to say about these projects?
