Johnny Depp Confirmed to Play PANCHO VILLA in Biopic

Back in December it was reported that Johnny Depp was in negotiations to play Mexican revolutionary hero Pancho Villa in a biopic being developed by Serbian fimmaker Emir Kusturica called, Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers. Since that news broke we haven't heard anything about the project or if the negotiations went well.

Apparently they did because Screen Daily reports that Johnny Deep is set to star as Pancho Villa in the film and Salma Hayek will take the role of the leading lady. The film which has been re-titled Wild Roses, Tender Roses, will start shooting on February 15th 2011 in Spain. And the film will be shot entirely in the Spanish language. The director of the film had this to say,

This is going to be my biggest movie. I will be doing it without compromise.

The script is based on the biographical novel The Friends of Pancho Villa, in which author James Carlos Blake recounts how Villa and his compadres had a great time fighting and robbing the rich, but also dancing, partying and making love.

This movie will be the second collaboration between Depp and director Emir Kusturica. They also worked together on a little film called Arizona Dream.

Being a big history buff I love the story of Pancho Villa and will be looking forward to seeing this movie.
