AVATAR's Technology Makes STAR WARS 3D a Reality

James Cameron's Avatar really has pushed filmmaking into the future. It is just in the early stages, but look at the influence it has had on Hollywood and filmmakers. It's like everyone wants to dive into the technological film making realm that Cameron has established. George Lucas was once in the spot James Cameron currently finds himself in. Star Wars was a film that changed movies forever. As powerful as Lucas is right now, imagine how much more powerful he could have been had he experimented more, pushed technology more, and made more films with the assets that he has. Oh well, he's not complaining.

According to Lucas, the technology that was created for Avatar may help in the process of bringing the beloved Star Wars films back to the big screen, only this time in 3D. We've heard a lot of talk about this for some time now, and it seems Lucas is ready to get started on seeing what the possibilities are with this new technology.

George Lucas was cornered at the Golden Globe Awards and was asked some question regarding Avatar, and here is what he had to say.

I liked it. I make movies like that, [so], I can appreciate what [James Cameron] went through to do it. [I’m] happy it’s so successful, and worked very well in 3-D. I haven’t been a big fan of 3-D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3-D.

Lucas hasn't made a movie like that in years! But, here is where he talks about Star Wars going 3D.

We’ve been looking for years and years and years of trying to take ‘Star Wars’ and put it in 3-D. But, [the] technology hasn’t been there. We’ve been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so if it finally gets a 3D release I will gladly go see it. Plus, it's another chance for all the Star Wars fans out there with kids now to share with them that awesome Star Wars experience on the big screen. I really hope Lucas follows through with it.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of Star Wars going 3D?
