Paramount Pictures Moving Forward with PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2

I enjoyed watching Paranormal Activity, the movie really did scare the hell out of me! It was a huge success for Paramount Pictures, and now it looks like they are going to move forward with a sequel to the film. They even attached a director to the project and it's not the original director Oren Peli. They have brought in Saw VI director Kevin Greutert to develop the sequel.

As much as I liked the first film, I don't really have any desire to see a sequel. I understand it makes sense for Paramount to do because they are going to give it a small budget and will most likely make a profit. But it doesn't make sense to me. The first movie was effective because of how natural it was and how natural the scares were, the sequel will be a fully studio run film that will be trying to push for the scares. The movie will seem forced and predictable with more CGI effects I'm sure. Thats not what made the first movie so good. It was the stuff you didn't see that scared you the most and unfortunately, even if they did go that route again it still wouldn't be as effective.

The studio is looking to release the film the weekend of October 22nd which will place it against Saw VII. This makes me wonder if Paramount feels that they have a horror movie Halloween franchise like the Saw series, where they will release one movie every halloween for the next 100 years. There are several different endings that the first film went through, every other alternate ending ended up with the girl being killed. In the final ending she lived, and I think they did that so they could turn it into a franchise if the movie succeeded.

Jason Blum and Oren Peli, who developed the first Paranormal Activity will serve as producers on the second film. Peli, who is currently in post-production on his Area 51 film project has this to say,

These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed.

Of course they wont say where the story will go in the sequel, but I imagine since it ended with the demon taking over the girl's body at the end of the first film, the movie will move in that direction, with a demon woman on the loose terrorizing people, but I could be wrong, and I hope I am. That is exactly the movie I really don't care to see.

Are you interested in seeing a sequel to Paranormal Activity?
