OBLIVION Update from Tron Legacy Director Joseph Kosinski

Back in July of last year it was announced that Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski was going to direct an original film concept his came up with called Oblivion. This is a project he's been working on getting off the ground for a few years now and it looks like he is in the process of getting his new project unleashed in both film form and illustrated novel form.

The story centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.

Kosinski recently did a little interview with MTV in which he tells us that we will have our first look at what he has planned for this story at this years Comic-Con.

Oblivion' is steaming ahead. We're hoping to have a preview of the illustrated novel — it's not a comic book — by this year's Comic-Con. It's going to be a wide-format, hardcover novel with about 40 or 50 fully illustrated plates in it. We're hoping to also get the script written for the movie in the near future as well.

He then goes on to say that he plans on getting the film into development in the near future. As much as this story has all the makings of a comic book type film he says,

I was never really a comic book kid. I'm not a traditional superhero fanboy.

He's then hints that the comic book movie topic has come up in the past and he has had that meeting with producers. He has had the chance to actually bring a superhero to the big screen, but it's not his thing. He didn't say which super hero it was. Regardless, everything I've seen from Tron Legacy looks great, the guy obviously has a vision and talent and I'm looking forward to seeing what he has in store for this Oblivion project.
