Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE is planned as a Trilogy according to Danny Trejo

I’m sure most of us have seen the fake Grindhouse trailer that Robert Rodriguez directed with that badass Mexican Danny Trejo as the star. Rodriguez is currently in production on the film and Trejo is currently filming Predators.

IGN recently did an interview with Trejo in which he reveals a few facts that we didn’t really know about the movie, such as the idea for Machete being born in the ‘90’s.

Robert had been training me for 'Machete' since 'Desperado,. A culmination of 'Desperado,' 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico'... [and] a little bit of 'From Dusk Till Dawn.'

There’s no doubt that he’s excited about Machete, this is his movie, and is has a all star cast which includes Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey play supporting roles.

Trejo goes on to talk about his first day on the set with De Niro:

You know, when I first saw Robert De Niro on the set, he came up and his first words to me were, 'Don't leave me like this, Holmes.' You know, that was my line in 'Heat.' And I kind of laughed and he said, 'Man, Danny, I'm really proud of you. You're the lead. This is it, this is you.' And I looked him right in the eyes and I said, 'Can I get some coffee, Mr. De Niro?

I thought that was pretty funny. I wonder if De Niro went out and actually got him his coffee. He goes on to say that this Machete film wont be the only Machete film. Apparently there is a trilogy that has been planned and the other two film already have titles.

We want Machete, Machete Kills, and Machete Kills Again. That's mine and Robert's standards, you know? Every time I text him, he'll text me back, 'Machete 2, coming up!'

I gotta say I love the titles of those films! There’s no doubt that the film will be ridiculously fun and over the top, but that why we are excited to go see it!
