Carrie Fisher Admits to doing Cocaine on the set of Empire Strikes Back
I recently posted 10 things you didn't know about The Empire Strikes Back, but this wasn't on the list. Carrie Fisher recently admitted to doing cocaine in Hoth on the set of Empire Strikes Back while playing Princess Leia. Here's what she told to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in a recent interview:
"We did cocaine on the set of 'Empire', in the ice planet," Fisher told Australian newswire AAP, referring to the setting of the second film in the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
"I didn't even like coke that much, it was just a case of getting on whatever train I needed to take to get high," she said while visiting Sydney for her "Wishful Drinking" stand-up comedy show.
She declined to reveal exactly who "we" was. John Belushi eventually took Fisher under his wing while shooting 1980's The Blues Brothers, and exposed her to more narcotics than she was comfortable with, she explained,
Slowly I realized I was doing a bit more drugs than other people and losing my choice in the matter.
Belushi did warn her that she had a problem prior to his own death from a drug overdose in 1982, and Fisher said she ultimately came to realize how dangerous her habits were and got help.
It's not really surprising that they were doing drugs on the set of the film, after all there's a huge market for drugs in the entertainment industry. That's just how it's always been.
