Photos from the set of STAR TOURS 2.0
As we've reported in the past, the classic Star Tours Disney ride is currently in the process of being upgraded to Star Tours 2.0, which is set to open up in May of 2011. As many of you know, the old ride was very outdated and definitely needed a reboot.
Above and below you will find photos from the set of the production which secretly took place back in April of 2009. We have a picture of Anthony Daniels holding his C-3PO head, and of the Starspeeder 1000.
It was reported that the "revamp will incorporate prequel characters (like Naboo citizens and Geonosians) along with many aliens from the original trilogy (Aqualish. Bith, Rodians, etc). In the action sequence, the Star Tours vehicle is now going to be chased by Boba Fett. C3PO and R2-D2 are still the hosts… Admiral Ackbar holographically communicates with the Star Tours vehicle."

On the immense soundstage, our production team re-created – full size – a portion of the Starspeeder 1000, so we could film it from multiple angles. Later, the effects wizards at ILM, under the direction of Bill George, completed the scene, adding in a whole range of droids and characters, and expanding the scale and scope of the scene.
