We know that Darren Aronofsky has been in the running to direct the next Wolverine film, but there hasn't been any confirmation that he is actually going to do it yet. But today Hugh Jackman has confirmed that Aronofsky is in fact attached to direct it. He goes on to say that Aronofsky's Wolverine 2 will not be a "usual" X-Men movie.
This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one, I hope. Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different.
Jackman goes on to talk about how the film is going to have "meat and bones".
This is Wolverine. This is not Popeye. He’s kind of dark. But, you know, this is a change of pace. Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, has written the script, so that’ll give you a good clue. [Aronofsky’s] going to make it fantastic. There’s going to be some meat on the bones. There will be something to think about as you leave the theater, for sure.
We heard a lot of this same kind of stuff from Jackman with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He really talked that movie up, and got us all excited for it. Only to see the film end up being a piece of crap. I can't say it's all Jackman's fault though, after all it was FOX that stepped in and screwed it all up. I'm just surprised no one stood up to them and said no.
I really hope Wolverine 2 ends up being a great movie, but I'm going to try to not get my hopes up. What are your thoughts on it?
