Cameron Confirms AVATAR 2 And 3 To Be Shot Back To Back
James Cameron and Jon Landau confirmed that Avatar 2 and 3 will be shot back to back in a Discussion Session/ Q&A according to Screen Rant. It is not clear if these will be Cameron's next projects or he will direct another film in between.
James Cameron has a lot of projects he is involved with to some extent. The conversion of Titanic to 3D has been his top priority currently. It turns out that Cameron is not actually involved in the True Lies TV adaptation. Cameron has also had and interest in making a big budget adaptation of the anime/manga Battle Angel. To do that would require a lot of time and focus which Cameron is not ready to commit currently.
Here is his official statement regarding the sequels to Avatar:
“Our plan right now is to do ['Avatar 2 & 3'] as a single large production and release them a year apart. In order to do that, we have to refine our technical processes beyond the end of where we were finishing ['Avatar']a year ago. We need to future-proof ourselves out five or six years to the end of the third film.”
The sequels will take a lot less time because James Cameron does already has the technology to shoot the films so that will save a lot of time. Cameron is interested in exploring the oceans of Pandora in the sequels so that should be an interesting turn. If there are so many cool creatures above water, there have got to be some insanely cool creatures below.
November will bring the release of the Extended Collectors Edition of Avatar on DVD and Blu-Ray just in time for the holidays. Avatar was the first film I watched in 3D and I was very happy with the outcome, unlike other films that have been converted. Avatar 2 and 3 will most likely be enough of a visually stunning movie going event to make it once again a must see in 3D!
What are your thoughts of the news? Are you getting tired of the influx of 3D?
