James Cameron's FANTASTIC VOYAGE to be Rewritten by Avatar Co-Writer

Movie James Cameron by Joey Paur

James Cameron will once again be working with Laeta Kalogridis on his up coming remake of the 1966 sci-fi film Fantastic Voyage. Kalogridis worked with Cameron on the script for the film Avatar, and will be rewriting the script for Fantastic Voyage. I'm sure it needed a re-write, after all the original draft was written by Shane Salerno who wrote the two crappy Alien vs. Predator films.

This is a high concept 3D film that Paul Greengrass was looking to direct at one point, but he ended up moving on to focus on a stylized adaptation of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novel Treasure Island, and didn't commit to the project. As of right now the film is still without a director.

The original film was made during the Cold War, and revolved around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent on a miniature submarine to save the life of a defecting Soviet scientist. The story then followed the biological adventures the team encounters in trying to save the scientist and themselves. The new film will follow the original story, except the Cold War element will not be there.

Kalogridis also wrote Shutter Island for Martin Scorsese, and is writing Ghost in the Shell for Avi Arad and DreamWorks and rewriting Nine Lives for Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney.

Who would you like to see direct this movie?
