Tom Hardy to Star in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN
Snow White and the Hunstsman is one of several new live-action fairy tale film projects going into development, including two other Snow White projects. Disney is developing a film called Snow and the Seven, a kung-fu epic which sees the dwarves replaced with Shaolin monks, and Relativity is developing The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which Tarsem Singh and Jean-Pierre Jeunet have been linked to possibly directing. Snow White and the Hunstsman is going to be a different take on the classic Snow White fairy tale, and as we previously reported, it will be written by Evan Daugherty.
The film will feature a bigger role for the Huntsman character. In the fairy tale, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go. In the new take, the Huntsman is not a love interest but acts more as a mentor, teaching Snow White to fight and survive.
Today we've learned from The Playlist that Tom Hardy (Inception) is up for the role of Eric, The Huntsman. Hardy is a great choice for the role! Here is a great actor who needs a great leading role, and this could be it. Hardy has also recently been cast in Christopher Nolan's Batman 3, and he's attached to star in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road which has been delayed for about a year. The actor is very close to officially signing onto the role. If he does sign on, it could take him out of the running for the Total Recall remake, but thats fine by me, that's a film that has no business being remade at all, because there's no point.
Universal Pictures is putting this project on the fast track and they have hired commercial director Rupert Sanders to direct the film, making this his feature film directorial debut. The studio is looking to shoot the film early 2011.
The site has also learned that the studio is "courting Angelina Jolie to play Ravenna, the evil queen and villain of the piece." The actress has also been linked to Tim Burton‘s Sleeping Beauty film Maleficent, so who knows if she will still want to star in two rival fairly tale film projects as the evil villain.
What do you all think about the casting surrounding this Snow White and the Huntsman film?
